CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS

Club Championship Rules 2014

  • All Matches are best of three sets with normal tie breaks in each set if needed.

  • The entire match is to be played out, no time limit but make sure you write CC (Club Championship) in the book.

  • Please play matches by the date stipulated on each section of each competition. If there is a timing issue please contact the Monitor of that competition which is noted at the top of each competition.

  • Please mark the results on the noticeboard and the winner of the match email portmarnockmatchresults@gmail.com with the result and we will update the draws online.

  • Once all 1st round matches are played in Championship singles, doubles and mixed we will create a plate draw.

  • If anyone doesn’t understand the handicap competitions please contact either Joanna Dempsey or Dave O’Mara  as it is easier to discuss and explain.

  • If you lose your 1st round match in the Singles Championship, Doubles Championship or Mixed Double Championship you will be entered in the draw for the Plate competition.  If you give a walk over in your first match you will not be entered in the Plate draw.

  • Any other issues please contact Joanna Dempsey   or Dave O’Mara

 Good Luck to all competitors.

Handicap system for club championships

If you have the letters SCR beside your name on the draw this means you play off Scratch in each game. Scratch means you start at zero or love. So for example, if you are playing someone who is -15, each game starts with you at love and your opponent at -15. Whoever is serving will start each game from the left hand side of the court. If your opponent is -30, then each game starts on the right side of the court. -40 left hand side of the court.

There appears to be confusion about tie breaks in the Handicap Singles Competition. There is no tie break in such competitions. All sets have to be played until one person wins by 2 clear games and the handicaps of both players are applied in every game.
